Robbinsville Township and Mayor Dave Fried, with considerable assistance from Recreation Sustainability Specialist Hope Neis, the Recreation Division and the Department of Public Works, recently received the 2023 Mayor’s Monarch Pledge Certificate after completing five action items for the creation and preservation of natural Monarch butterfly habitats within our community, including the Butterfy Garden inside the Miry Run Recreation Area at 66 Sharon Road.

The stunning garden was created by Sara Marincas in 2021 as part of her Girl Scouts Gold Award Service Project.

Robbinsville is currently developing natural meadows within Miry Run, which flourishes with Monarchs during the warmer peak seasons. We are committed to creating additional butterfly sanctuaries throughout the Township, which will effectively enhance the Monarch population and provide a safe environment for Monarchs and other key pollinators for years to come.

Action items included:

* Adding native pollinator plants to multiple existing and new locations in Robbinsville Township.
* Providing fun and educational activities for our residents
* Partnering with various local non-profit and environmental groups to raise awareness and accomplish multiple projects regarding the creation.

It was a great team effort, and we look forward to accomplishing even more in 2024.
