BAPS Opens Largest Temple Outside India in Robbinsville

BAPS officially opens largest temple ever built outside India in Robbinsville to cap "75 Days of Inspiration" festivities Sunday

ROBBINSVILLE, NJ - The Swaminarayan Akshardham, now the tallest and largest Hindu temple of worship in the United States, officially opened in Robbinsville on Sunday, October 8.

Over the past 12 years, more than 12,500 volunteers have worked to meticulously craft the Akshardham that now stands as a spiritual and cultural beacon for visitors of all faiths and backgrounds. The Mahamandir will open to members of the public to experience on October 18, offering a quiet place for meditation, reflection, and spiritual enrichment.

“The grand opening of Akshardham marks an exciting day for Robbinsville and our surrounding community,” Robbinsville Mayor Dave Fried said. “Nearly 15 years of community partnership, selfless service, volunteerism, and the hard work of thousands of people from across the world have finally brought us here. The journey to this most grand of grand openings has been long and sometimes painstaking. But to have the unique opportunity to meet with His Holiness, Mahant Swami Maharaj, not once, but twice, over the past six years has been an experience I’ll carry with me for the rest of my life.

"The work BAPS and its many volunteers have put into its "Festival of Inspirations" and “75 Days of Hope,” which included a first-of-its-kind blood drive, illustrates just some of the overwhelming kindness the BAPS community has bestowed on us for well over a decade," Fried continued. "We are incredibly thankful for BAPS’ dedication to our town and look forward to sharing in the positive impact Akshardham will have on our community.”

The Robbinsville campus of the Akshardham spans more than 185 acres.
