About the Department of Community Development

The Department of Community Development works with the Township Business Administrator to implement the policies set forth by the governing body in the area of community development, which includes economic development projects, grant writing, township initiatives, acting as a liaison to external governmental agencies, elected officials, neighborhood and community groups, and local non-profit organizations seeking collaborations to meet common objectives. 

The department director is responsible for developing, advancing and maintaining positive and productive collaborative relationships and partnerships with the external community and promoting and advancing the Township’s needs as articulated by the Governing Body. The director takes direction and reports to the Business Administrator.

The offices of Planning/Zoning and Engineering are divisions within the Department of Community Development.

The Department of Community Development also identifies financial resources for program development, infrastructure improvements, and sustainable growth from federal, state and local government and private foundation support. The Director also is charged with establishing a broad vision and project direction, monitoring goals and status of community indicators, and facilitating and monitoring implementation of community development activities.

The Department of Community Development also promotes the Township through activities such as community-building meetings and activities, social events, or large-group service projects. The department director develops and strengthens relationships with local, state, and federal government representatives, and represents the Township at meetings, conferences and events.
