ROBBINSVILLE ORGANIZES FUND DRIVE
TO SEND TEAM TO WORLD SERIES

ROBBINSVILLE, N.J. -- Township Mayor Dave Fried and members of the Township Council today announced efforts to seek sponsorships and donations to help offset the cost of sending the Robbinsville Little League 12-year-old girls softball team to the World Series in Portland, Ore.
Council President Chris Ciaccio, who with her husband, Tom, owns Tony’s Farm and Garden Center on Route 130, will host a collection drive at the garden center on Sunday, August 3 starting at 11 a.m. Council members and Township officials will be on hand to collect donations, either in cash or by check. Checks should be payable to Robbinsville Little League.
The softball team captured the U.S. East Regional title today in Albany, N.Y., with a 7-0 win over Scarborough, Maine. The 11-member squad is undefeated and allowed only three runs over six games, including last Tuesday’s perfect game by pitcher Rebecca Freeman over North East, Maryland.
Mayor Fried, who traveled to Albany for the final two games, called for the Robbinsville community to help team families offset the estimated $10,000 travel costs of getting the team to Portland for the World Series.
“We already have commitments for at least $3,500, including a $2,500 commitment from Sharbell Development Corporation,” Mayor Fried said. “I know our community can pull together for these girls. They are showing the world the best that Robbinsville has to offer, and they deserve our support.”
On Monday, donations can be brought to the Township Administration office, 1 Washington Blvd., Suite 6, Robbinsville. The team leaves for Portland August 5.
